Ten people have been reported dead while 167 others are affected in Degubi community in Nangere local government area of Yobe State as a result of an outbreak of cerebrospinal meningitis.

The commissioner for health, Dr Muhammad Lawan Gana, who disclosed this when he led a state government delegation to sympathise with the victims, said the government was working to provide rapid response to the outbreak.

According to him the state government has taken adequate measures to control the spread of the disease in collaboration with the World Health Organisation (WHO) and UNICEF as well as other international partners.
