Messi Hits 930th Career Goal, Surpasses Ronaldo Milestone

Lionel Messi moved past another Cristiano Ronaldo milestone after scoring for Inter Miami in their 2-2 draw with San Diego FC in Major League Soccer on Sunday.

The Inter Miami captain produced a trademark free-kick in the 24th minute to equalise after San Diego had taken an early lead.

The strike was Messi’s 930th career goal and his 75th direct free-kick goal, according to reports on the match. 

The 39-year-old also scored his 20th MLS goal of the season, making him only the second player in MLS history to record 20 or more goals in three consecutive seasons, after Denis Bouanga. 

Messi reached the 930-goal mark in 1,176 appearances, while Ronaldo had previously reached the figure in 1,272 matches at the age of 40 years and 58 days, according to reports.

The Argentine’s latest landmark came just days after he scored his 100th goal for Inter Miami in their 2-0 Campeones Cup victory over Cruz Azul. 

Despite Messi’s latest milestone, Inter Miami were unable to claim all three points, as San Diego held the hosts to a 2-2 draw.
