According to ESPN Argentina’s Martin Arevalo, Lionel Messi will leave PSG this summer, with the 35-year-old’s happiness being at FC Barcelona.

The Argentina captain will do his best to try and return to his boyhood club even if it means that he might have to play for free.

Messi left Barcelona in the summer of 2021 after his contract expired and the club could not renew it due to its financial problems.

The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner signed for PSG on a two-year contract that expires at the end of the ongoing season. Only a few months ago, it looked likely that the superstar would renew with PSG and stay in France for at least one more year.

However, the picture has changed drastically over the past few months, with the chances of a return to Barcelona gaining weight with each passing day.

Club vice-president, Rafa Yuste, confirmed that contacts had been taking place between the two parties over a possible return.

Furthermore, it was reported that Barcelona president, Joan Laporta, was ready to put in maximum effort to bring Messi back to the club.

Now, it is being claimed that Messi himself has his heart set on a return to his old stomping grounds and is willing to try his best to secure a move back to Catalonia, even if it meant that he plays for free.

While he would not obviously play for free, it indicates that the Argentina captain would be willing to reduce his salary to fit into Barcelona’s current situation and help them with the Financial Fair Play situation.
