Several ethnic nationalities of the Middle Belt in Plateau State have passed a vote of confidence on the Plateau State governor, Caleb Mutfwang and endorsed him for a second term for what they called his genuine leadership and inclusive governance.

The vote of confidence and endorsement, which took place in Jos, the state capital, had various community leaders in attendance, including some critical stakeholders of Middle-Belt ethnic nationalities who expressed satisfaction with governance in the state.

Professor Abraham Dogo, who announced the endorsement, disclosed that the leaders acknowledged that, despite challenges, Governor Mutfwang has demonstrated leadership quality by stabilising human and capital development in the state beyond imagination.

According to the Middle-Belt leaders, no successive administration in the history of Plateau has done what Mutfwang is doing, most especially considering the appointment of a Senior Special Assistant on middle belt ethnic nationalities affairs, which is the first of its kind. They called on other governors to emulate Governor Mutfwang.

“We, the leaders of over 300 ethnic nationalities of the Middle Belt on the Plateau, gathered here, and after a crucial deliberation, we wish to express our utmost confidence and pass a vote of confidence in the leadership of Governor Caleb Mutfwang and his deputy, Ngo Josephine Piyo. This is because of his commitment to peace, security, infrastructural development, and inclusive governance, which has earned our highest commendation.”

Professor Dogo, who is the Plateau State president of the Southern Kaduna People’s Union (SOKAPU), which includes over 50 ethnic groups, said that the Middle Belt leaders’ endorsement came to fruition after their quarterly review meeting to discuss the way forward and unite indigenous people of the Middle Belt.

Speaking on behalf of the Gongola people’s Forum, the general secretary, Dr. Emmanuel Anonduko, commended Governor Mutfwang for championing the unity of the Middle-Belt leaders while appreciating him for inclusive governance irrespective of religion, tribe, or political affiliation, which he said has changed the narrative.

On behalf of the Gongola people’s Forum in the state, he promised that they’ll take advantage of the continuous voter registration exercise that will soon commence by mobilising subjects to actively participate so that they can all vote for Governor Mutfwang again during the 2027 elections.

On his part, the secretary of the Conference of Autochthonous Ethnic Community Development Associations (CONAECDA), Solomon Sukukum, affirmed that Governor Caleb Mutfwang is a leader who listens and acts and has made a great commitment to fostering unity and understanding among Middle-Belt nationalities by giving them a voice.

Also speaking, the leader of the Nassarawa state indigenous people in Plateau state (NASITOP), Mr Richard Audu, disclosed that Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s second-term endorsement was a vote of confidence because of his unwavering commitment to the welfare of Plateau and all Middle Belt people and his developmental strides.

Mr Audu, who described Plateau and Nasarawa as brothers, commended the governor’s security efforts and encouraged him to sustain his efforts in youth and agricultural empowerment, amongst other areas.

Meanwhile, the SSA to the Governor of Plateau State on Middle-Belt ethnic nationalities, Hon. Dan Kwada, said what has happened is just a tip of the iceberg compared to what will happen in the coming days because this endorsement and vote of confidence by the leaders of over 300 ethnic nationalities is a testament to Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of the people in the state and the Middle Belt in general.
