Mide Martins’ Colleagues Demand ₦3m From Her After Claiming Movie Earned ₦500m

Nollywood actress Mide Martins found herself at the centre of an unusual exchange on a movie set after two of her colleagues jokingly demanded a share of the reported earnings from her latest film, IYA.

In a video circulating online, actors Obatide Kelvin and Debbie Shokoya were seen addressing Martins while filming, with Obatide claiming the movie had generated more than ₦500 million on YouTube.

He said members of the so-called Omoonile association and Martins’ supporters deserved ₦3 million from the reported revenue, arguing that the amount would be relatively small compared with the film’s alleged earnings.

“This woman has made N500 million from her movie on YouTube, and it has been confirmed,” Obatide said.

He added: “You have made over N500 million; giving me N3 million isn’t an issue.”

Debbie backed the claim, insisting that Martins had indeed made more than ₦500 million and saying viewers could hold her to the statement.

The playful demand came as Martins and members of her cast were also captured in tears while filming a particularly emotional scene.

Martins later explained that the scene was so powerful that the actors struggled to contain their emotions, especially as mothers who could relate to the situation portrayed.

The actress has built a strong reputation in Yoruba-language Nollywood over the years and has received recognition for her work, including winning Best Actress for the second time last year.
