The Air Component of the Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, has killed 27 suspected terrorists in coordinated precision air strikes on insurgent hideouts in the Southern and Northern Tumbus areas of Borno State.
The Nigerian Air Force, in an operational report on Sunday, said the strikes were executed following intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) missions that confirmed terrorist activities in the affected locations.
According to the report, the first strike occurred at about 12:40 a.m. on June 10 at Dawoshe, a known terrorist enclave in the Southern Tumbus axis, where aerial surveillance had identified hostile movement and vehicles.
It stated that air assets, including Dragon attack platforms and ISR aircraft, were deployed to engage the targets after they were tracked within the operational area.
“The aircraft engaged the targets, destroying the vehicles and neutralising 12 terrorists during the strike,” the report said.
A separate operation was also carried out the same day in Metele, located in the Northern Tumbus area of Guzamala Local Government Area, where additional terrorist positions were identified.
Post-strike assessment and human intelligence, according to the report, confirmed that 15 terrorists were killed in the operation.
“The report stated that post-strike Battle Damage Assessment and Human Intelligence confirmed that 15 terrorists were killed in the operation,” it added.
Military authorities described the twin operations as a significant setback for terrorist groups operating around the Lake Chad basin and Tumbus hideouts, noting that the strikes disrupted their logistics and operational capabilities.
They explained that the air offensives were part of ongoing efforts to degrade terrorist networks, dismantle supply routes and deny insurgents freedom of movement across the North-East theatre of operations.
In total, 27 terrorists were neutralised during the two coordinated air operations conducted within the period under review.
The Armed Forces of Nigeria reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining intensified offensive operations against terrorist strongholds until lasting peace and stability are restored across the region.
