Military Integrates Air Power, Ground Troops Against Terrorists

Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has said the military has developed a new strategy that enhances the integration of air power with ground troops to end insecurity in the country.

He made this known at the weekend during the closing of the 2nd training exercise of the Nigerian military in Kontagora, Niger State, tagged: “Mugun Bugu 2023”.

While stressing that synergy among security organisations will bring an end to terrorism, he said deliberate efforts to ensure synergy through sustainable joint training for the Nigerian military is strengthened to combat the insecurity bedeviling the country.

General Musa said the exercise is tailored towards training of the men in all arms manoeuvres within a joint environment.

The CDS, who was represented by the chief of doctrine, Major General Jal Jimoh, stated that the Nigerian Air Force has been integrated to provide air power and support to the ground troops in achieving the objectives.

He charged the Armed Forces on patriotism and appreciated their commitment, dedication and resilience to scale up professionalism.

He thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the National Assembly for their support and understanding and promised total loyalty to the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Also, the chief of army staff (COAS) Lt General Taoreed Lagbaja said the joint training exercise is necessary in a complex operation to make fighting together easy for combat efficiency while addressing insecurity in various regional challenges in the country.

The army chief who was represented by the chief of training army, Major General S.G. Mohammed, urged the trainees to leverage on the knowledge gained in fulfilling their constitutional mandate and   serve Nigeria better.

He maintained that leaders of the Nigeria Army will in this year’s conference  review its operations and training designs to develop new policies and strategies that will guide 2024 undertakings and beyond.

Lagbaja stated that Mugun Bugu exercise 2023 has demonstrated the genuine commitment to producing highly versatile and intellectually sound military professionals in the country.
