Fifteen years after, the minister of Power and 2027 All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has promised to end the struggle with epileptic electricity supply in the Ibarapa zone of Oyo State.

At a meeting with APC leaders, stakeholders and members in Eruwa at the weekend, Adelabu said the Federal Ministry of Power has secured funding for the completion of three major power substations in the zone.

The Ibarapa region, which comprises seven towns—Eruwa, Lanlate, Igboora, Idere, Ayete, Tapa, and Igangan—has long suffered from unreliable power supply, affecting the socio-economic development of the area.

Adelabu assured residents that visible improvements in electricity supply would begin soon, as construction work on the substations is scheduled to commence within a week.

“We have thoroughly diagnosed the electricity challenges in Ibarapa. The major issue in the past was inadequate funding, but we have now secured sufficient resources to complete the substations and upgrade existing infrastructure.

“As part of our efforts, transformers have already been delivered, and we have started lighting up roadways and key community clusters. Ibarapa, relax—this project will be completed and commissioned before I leave office. That is my promise.”

In addition to addressing the power supply issues, Adelabu also used the opportunity to rally support within the APC during a consultation meeting with stakeholders across five local government areas in Ibadan.

He called for genuine reconciliation within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging members to unite in order to reclaim Oyo State from the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

“All party members must set aside their differences and forge a strong alliance. My governorship ambition is not a do-or-die affair, but Oyo State belongs to the progressives and must return to the progressive fold in 2027,” he declared.

Adelabu further emphasised the need for internal democracy within the APC, warning against multiple lists for ward, local government, and state congresses.

“Our reconciliation process must be credible and inclusive. I am ready to devote my time and energy to the peace, unity, and growth of our great party,” he added.
