Minister Hails Egbetokun’s Reforms, Police-Military Synergy

Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Gwabin Musa, has commended the immediate past inspector-general of police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for strengthening Nigeria’s policing system and inter-agency security cooperation.

Musa, in a congratulatory message to Egbetokun on the completion of his tenure as the 22nd IGP, said his leadership left a lasting institutional impact on the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

“Your tenure as the inspector-general of police was marked by meritorious service, professionalism and an enduring commitment to institutional reforms. Your efforts in strengthening operational frameworks, promoting accountability and enhancing personnel welfare and morale have laid a solid foundation for sustained progress within the Force,” the minister said.

He said Egbetokun’s tenure was characterised by professionalism and a commitment to reforms aimed at improving the efficiency and credibility of the police.

The minister also highlighted the improved collaboration between the Armed Forces and the police during the former IGP’s administration, describing it as a critical factor in addressing Nigeria’s complex security challenges.

Musa recalled that both institutions worked closely through joint planning, intelligence sharing, and coordinated operations, which he said boosted mission effectiveness and strengthened national security architecture.

According to him, the synergy between the military and the police helped optimise resources and enhanced the capacity of security agencies to protect lives and critical national assets.

“I wish to particularly commend the deepened inter-agency collaboration between the Armed Forces of Nigeria and the Nigeria Police Force during your administration. In my previous capacity as the Chief of Defence Staff, I had the privilege of working closely with you to advance a coordinated national security approach anchored on joint planning, intelligence sharing and synchronised operations.

“This strategic alignment significantly enhanced mission effectiveness, optimized resource utilization, and reinforced our collective capacity to safeguard national stability and protect critical assets,” he stated.

He wished Egbetokun well in his retirement, expressing confidence that his contributions to national security and institutional development would remain a reference point in public service.
