Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Iziaq Salako, has commissioned the Multi-Speciality Complex built by the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Keffi.
The minister also commissioned the centre’s solar energy infrastructure and its Atmospheric Water Generator, recently donated by the Embassy of Japan, the first in West Africa.
Our correspondent reports that the Multispecialty Complex is expected to accommodate the Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) and Head and Neck surgery departments, the Ophthalmology department, the Physiotherapy department, and the Dental department.
The atmospheric water generator, on the other hand, obviates the challenge of procuring distilled de-ionised water in critical areas like hospital laboratories, renal dialysis units, surgical theatres, and pharmaceutical uses.
It has a capacity of producing 1000 litres of water from the atmosphere daily.
The solar energy infrastructure will complement in provision adequate power supply to the centre
Speaking at the occasion, the minister commended the FMC management for executing key transformative projects designed to improve healthcare services at the centre and significantly enhance tertiary healthcare delivery in the state and the North Central region.
He said the projects are in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises the provision of healthcare, including needed specialist care, to Nigerians wherever they need it.
“I am happy to note that FMC Keffi has keyed into this agenda and is playing its role in delivering healthcare to our people.
“I congratulate the management and staff of this hospital for this milestone achievement, which is another testament to the impactful vision of the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he said.
He appreciated Governor Abdullahi Sule’s administration for all the support extended to the medical centre to enable it to carry out its mandate of providing health care services to patients.
The Medical Director of the centre, Dr Yahaya Baba-Adamu, noted that projects are meant to meet the health needs of the teeming patients who troop to the centre year in and year out.
“We believe that the underlying projects above and many more are in alignment with the vision of Mr President, which is keeping with the Renewed Hope Agenda for Nigerians,” he said.
He said other projects, such as the 116-bed Mega Lying-in Ward, the Neuropsychiatric Complex, and the Public Health Complex, are ongoing.
“Also, as we speak, the intervention project of a state-of-the-art radio diagnostic centre is under construction, as well as the ongoing construction of the trauma centre and our first staff quarters project. We look forward to more projects at the FMC Keffi,” he said.
While commending the federal government for providing infrastructure at the facility, he appealed for enhanced welfare to further motivate the medical centre’s staff.
