Minister of information and national orientation, Mohammed Idris, has commended the governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, for the re-establishment of the state Ministry of Information.

In a statement from the ministry in Abuja on Friday, the minister described the move as a landmark decision.

He said the re-establishment of the ministry coming a decade after its dissolution, aligned with the federal government’s broader push for enhanced public communication and citizen engagement.

Idris noted that the decision echoed the call he made during the December 2024 National Council on Information (NCI) meeting, where state governments were urged to revitalise or create functional information ministries.
The goal, he said, was to strengthen governance, foster public trust and promote national unity.

“The Kaduna State government’s action is a critical step toward advancing our collective goal of transparent governance and citizen-centric communication,” he said.

He further stated that by restoring the ministry, Kaduna had demonstrated a firm commitment to the federal government’s vision of a harmonized information ecosystem—where state and federal agencies work together to amplify development narratives, counter misinformation, and support national cohesion.

According to Idris, the revival of the ministry will enhance collaboration between federal and state information structures, enabling more effective coordination on national priorities such as security, education, healthcare, and economic reforms.

He emphasised that the reactivation of the ministry would provide the people of Kaduna State better access to accurate and timely information on government policies, programs, and opportunities. This, he said, would foster inclusivity and participatory governance.

“The ministry will serve as a frontline defense against fake news and divisive rhetoric. It will help build public trust through timely, culturally relevant, and fact-based communication,” he added.
