Minister of information and national orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, has connected his village, Malagi in Gbako local government area of Niger State, to the national electricity grid.
He has also sponsored the renovation of a primary school and dug a borehole in the community, saying the projects were to ensure that residents had the amenities needed for daily activities.
At the inauguration of the projects yesterday, the minister said they were part of his contributions to the development of his community.
“It is one of the ways I want to make an impact on the community that gave me life. My father was born in this community, I want to pave way through education so that others can benefit and be educated,” he said.
Reacting, Niger State governor, Mohammed Bago, lauded the minister for his contributions to the development of the community.
He donated over N12 million to various groups in the community including women, youths, vigilante groups, district heads and others.
Bago also promised to upgrade the renovated primary school to a model junior secondary school and build a market for the community to uplift the standard of living.
