Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Senator John Owan Enoh, has charged Cross River State’s first indigenous commissioner of police from Yakurr nation, CP Ofem Ikpi Arikpo, to be a worthy ambassador of the Yakurr nation.
He urged him to uphold professionalism in every assignment given to him.
Enoh gave the charge during a grand reception and chieftaincy coronation held in honour of CP Arikpo at the Omor Ututu Palace ground in Ugep village, Yakurr local government area of Cross River State.
The minister urged the new CP, who is attached to the force headquarters Abuja, to make both Yakurr Nation and the people of Cross River proud after he was coronated with a chieftaincy title of Obol Kobili, meaning Chief of Seal.
“Be a worthy ambassador of Umotutu and the entire state,” Enoh said while addressing the gathering.
He lauded residents of the community for turning out enmass to celebrate CP Arikpo, describing him as their illustrious son.
The minister told the community residents that “any mind that celebrates the goodness of others stands a chance to attract God’s favour and blessings.” He encouraged the community to keep the spirit of honouring people who have excelled in their various fields of endeavour.
Enoh further charged Ofem not to be distracted by things of the world but to remain focused in the discharge of his responsibilities as a police officer.
He urged him to “exhibit professionalism in the discharge of his duties without fear or favour.”
Earlier in his welcome address, HRM Obol Ofem Ubana Eteng thanked CP Arikpo for being “a worthy ambassador of Ugep Nation” to attain the prestigious rank of Commissioner of Police of the Nigeria Police Force.
The paramount ruler lauded all stakeholders who made the elevation possible, and charged Arikpo to be “dedicated, committed, resilient and above all, exhibit professionalism in the discharge of his duties.”
The monarch urged other sons and daughters of Ugep to emulate the virtues of CP Arikpo, who he said worked hard with patience and discipline until “fate assisted him to climb to the zenith of his chosen profession.”
He also prayed for “God’s intervention, guidance, protection and more elevation.”
Chairman of the occasion and immediate past Head of Service of the Cross River State Government, Dr Innocent Eteng, commended CP Arikpo for making Ugep Urban proud as its first indigenous Commissioner of Police. He charged him to see his new position as a call “to render more services to the nation and protect the image of the community.”
In his response, CP Ofem Ikpi Arikpo expressed gratitude to the Ugep nation for honouring him, pledging not to betray the confidence reposed in him by the Police Force and the nation.
