Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler has confirmed that winger Yankuba Minteh could still secure a move to Liverpool in a future transfer window after the club rejected substantial offers for the 22-year-old.
The Seagulls turned down bids of £50m and £60m from the Reds during the recent transfer window, with Brighton understood to be seeking closer to £70m for the Gambia international.
Minteh, who joined Brighton from Newcastle for £30m in 2024, has made 73 appearances for the club, scoring 10 goals and providing nine assists while playing primarily on the right wing.
Speaking ahead of Saturday’s Premier League fixture against Leeds, Hurzeler said: “If the whole team is successful and the individual shines then Yankuba will get a lot of attention again and he can then maybe fulfil his dream in the next transfer window.”
The German manager insisted Minteh remains fully committed to Brighton despite the failed move to Merseyside.
“He wears the Brighton colours, he wears the Brighton badge. He has been with us for two years now as part of the squad. He has achieved great things together with the boys,” said Hurzeler.
“It’s also about him now to commit. In the end, we always say we want to be successful as a club and then you can shine as individuals.
“That is what we have proved in the past. If we achieve things together, the attention will come to the individual players and that will be the case also this season.”
While Minteh remained at the Amex Stadium, Brighton generated significant funds through player sales during the window, including Carlos Baleba’s £70m move to Manchester United.
The club completed a deadline-day deal for Spanish defensive midfielder Chema Andres from Stuttgart in a transfer worth £15.5m.
Andres, 21, made 41 appearances for Stuttgart last season after joining from Real Madrid in 2025. The Spaniard came through Real’s youth system and made his La Liga debut in January 2025 before helping Stuttgart qualify for the Champions League.
Hurzeler acknowledged the comparisons between Andres and Manchester City’s Rodri, with the Spaniard having been dubbed ‘baby Rodri’.
“He has this motivation of wanting to improve every day,” said Hurzeler. “He comes on the first day and wants to go outside on the pitch, he wants to have ball touches and you can really feel that he is very ambitious.
“Therefore, I can understand this comparison [with Rodri] but he has a long way to go and hopefully he can get there one day. It would be a big one for us but also for the whole football world.”
