Miva Open University has partnered with 02 Academy to equip students with professional skills, certifications and industry exposure as part of efforts to bridge the gap between academic learning and workplace requirements.

The partnership is expected to strengthen students’ employability, practical skills and understanding of contemporary industry practices, particularly among Mass Communication students.

Under the collaboration, students of the Department of Mass Communication and Media Studies will have access to professional certification programmes, workshops, masterclasses, guest lectures, mentorship and career coaching programmes.

They will also have opportunities to participate in conferences, industry networking events and other practical learning activities designed to complement their academic training with real-world industry knowledge.

Commenting on the partnership, the Programmes Coordinator, Department of Mass Communication and Media Studies, Miva Open University, Dr Funmi Shodipe, said the initiative reflected the university’s commitment to producing graduates with both academic knowledge and practical skills.

She said, “This partnership reflects Miva’s commitment to ensuring that students are equipped with strong academic foundations, alongside the practical skills and professional exposure required to thrive in a rapidly evolving economy.

“At Miva, we recognise that preparing students for the future requires connecting what they learn in the classroom with the realities of the workplace.

“This partnership with 02 Academy gives our Mass Communication students access to professional certifications, industry practitioners and practical learning opportunities that complement their academic experience and help them build the skills, confidence and industry awareness needed to advance in their careers.”

Also speaking, the Provost of 02 Academy, Ozoemena Mbanefo, said the academy was pleased to collaborate with Miva Open University to place practical and industry-relevant learning at the centre of students’ educational experience.

Mbanefo said, “We are delighted to collaborate with Miva Open University on an initiative that places practical, industry-relevant learning at the heart of student experience.

“By combining academic learning with professional certifications, expert-led sessions and practical exposure, we look forward to equipping students with relevant skills and experiences that will support their continued professional development.”

The collaboration is aimed at bringing academic learning closer to industry practice at a time when employers increasingly seek graduates who can combine academic knowledge with practical capabilities, digital fluency, adaptability, creativity and an understanding of contemporary workplace demands.
