‎‎Musicians and fans have jubilated on the order of the Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, who approved the request of the families of late singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, known as Mohbad, to reopen the investigation into his death, which happened three years ago.

‎The case has now been handed to the Special Enquiry Bureau of Lagos State Police Command, with a representative of the Aloba family.

‎Many fans and commentators welcomed the news, holding onto hope that a fresh forensic approach would finally resolve unanswered questions about the cause of death and provide closure.

‎A section of the public expressed fatigue and confusion, citing a conflicting timeline in which the court recently dismissed a probe suit just days before the police department initiated its own independent reinvestigation.

‎Critics have questioned the timing and efficiency of the long-drawn process, urging authorities to handle the matter swiftly so the late singer can be laid to rest without further public spectacle.

‎A popular musician, J. J Afroblackish, said that the reopening of the case was a good development to answer questions on the circumstances that led to his death. He urged that the new investigation should be robust and tighten the loose ends.

‎”Mohbad was a talented Nigerian artiste whose music touched millions of people. His sudden death on September 12, 2023, left his family, friends, colleagues, and fans with painful questions that remain unanswered.

‎”Three years later, his remains are still yet to be finally laid to rest, while concerns surrounding the circumstances of his death continue to demand answers.

‎”I welcome the Inspector-General of Police’s approval for a fresh and comprehensive investigation into Mohbad’s death. I believe this investigation should be thorough, transparent, independent, and fair, so that the truth can be established and justice served.

‎”My concern is simple: justice delayed should not become justice denied. The Mohbad family deserves answers. His friends and colleagues deserve clarity. His fans deserve to know the truth. Above all, Mohbad deserves dignity, even in death.

‎”I therefore appeal to the relevant authorities to handle this fresh investigation with professionalism, transparency, and urgency. Every relevant piece of evidence should be carefully examined, every necessary witness properly heard, and anyone whose involvement is established through credible evidence should face the law in accordance with due process.

‎”This is not a call for trial by social media. It is not a call for accusations without evidence. It is a call for the truth.

‎”The government and relevant authorities should also work to ensure that the prolonged issues surrounding Mohbad’s remains are resolved lawfully and compassionately, so that his family can finally give him a proper and befitting burial and begin the process of healing.

‎”Mohbad’s life mattered. His music mattered. His family matters. And the truth matters. May the soul of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba — MOHBAD continue to rest in peace,” says Afroblackish.

‎Another artiste, Neo Phlames, noted that, in pursuit of justice, the reopening of the investigation is in order, as the family has waited and suffered too long for justice. He called for a speedy and thorough investigation to nip this in the bud so that Mohbad can finally be buried and have rest.

‎Mohbad died on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27, following a severe reaction to medical injections administered at his home.
