The residence of a member of Indonesia’s House of Representatives (DPR) from the National Democratic (NasDem) Party, Ahmad Sahroni, was attacked by a mob in Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, on Saturday.
Hundreds of people stormed the property after forcing their way through the front gate.
Videos live-streamed by activist groups on social media showed the crowd pelting the house with heavy objects, breaking windows, and looting the lawmaker’s belonging.
Items reportedly taken included wristwatches, cash, a cooling unit, as well as Sahroni’s toy and figurine collection.
His car was also vandalised, with its rear window and both side panels smashed. Other footage revealed valuables being carried away while several individuals tried unsuccessfully to stop the destruction.
The attack followed Sahroni’s controversial remarks on the debate over dissolving the DPR.
During a working visit to North Sumatra on Friday, August 22, 2025, he dismissed calls for the body’s disbandment as excessive, describing those who supported the idea as “stupid people.”
“Does dissolving the DPR really convince the public that governance will run better? Not necessarily,” Sahroni said, adding that criticism of the DPR is acceptable but should not involve personal insults.
His comments quickly went viral, sparking heated debate online and making his name trend across social media.
In a subsequent Instagram post on his account, @ahmadsahroni88, he shared a photo of a person in an Anonymous mask with the caption, “More and more foolish people take pride in their foolishness.”
The origins of the mob remained unclear, but the incident has drawn widespread attention as videos of the vandalism continue to circulate across multiple platforms.
