They were marked by the State Urban Planning and Development Authority (KNUPDA).

Most of them have been completed while some are still under construction.

They include those built around the city wall. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had accused his predecessor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, of illegally allocating them for development.

Properties along the city wall include filling stations, car sales spots and Salbas filling station, one of the biggest in the city.

A plaza belonging to the Kano State Investment and Properties Limited (KISP) is also affected. The rest are for individuals and business owners.

Owners and occupants of the marked properties have begun to remove their belongings and building parts after the marking.

Some residents said the demolition exercise was retrogressive while others support it.

Managing director of the KNUPDA, Arch. Ibrahim Yakubu Adamu, had said all public lands that were illegally sold out by the past administration would be restored, adding that all public lands including mosques, schools, cemeteries and the wall fence would be demolished and returned for more meaningful use.
