MOSIEND Hails Ogbuku , Says NDDC Now Delivers Impact

The Movement for the Survival of the Izon Ethnic Nationality in the Niger Delta (MOSIEND) has commended the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Chief Samuel Ogbuku, on his 51st birthday, saying the Commission has moved from project announcements to measurable community impact under his leadership.

In a statement signed by its National President, Ambassador Dr. Kennedy Tonjo West, the group said Ogbuku’s tenure had introduced a new approach to development intervention in the Niger Delta, with greater emphasis on infrastructure delivery, project completion, human capital development and grassroots outcomes.

MOSIEND said the shift was significant in a region where abandoned projects over the years had eroded public confidence in development intervention agencies.

The organisation cited the Kaa-Ataba Road and Bridge, infrastructure upgrades at the Niger Delta University, electrification schemes and other strategic interventions as evidence of what it described as the Commission’s renewed focus on projects capable of delivering tangible benefits to communities.

It also commended the NDDC’s “Light Up the Niger Delta” initiative, saying the deployment of solar-powered streetlights in communities and along roads was helping to create safer environments while supporting commercial activities beyond daytime hours.

The group further praised the Commission’s youth empowerment programmes, including the Youth Internship Scheme and skills acquisition initiatives, describing them as important interventions for tackling unemployment and expanding opportunities for young people across the region.

According to MOSIEND, the interventions align with its advocacy for the “Reorientation, Repositioning and Recovery of Lost Values” in the Niger Delta.

West said the assessment of Ogbuku’s tenure should go beyond awards and public recognition to focus on whether development interventions were producing measurable improvements in the lives of citizens.

“Development must ultimately be measured by the lives improved, communities connected and opportunities created,” he said.

The MOSIEND president described Ogbuku as a son of the Niger Delta whose professional and administrative experience had enabled him to contribute meaningfully to the development of the region.

He wished the NDDC chief executive greater wisdom, strength and good health, while urging him to remain committed to advancing development across the Niger Delta.

“Dr. Ogbuku, we celebrate you, we appreciate your service, and we encourage you to remain steadfast,” West said.

He added, “May the years ahead be marked by greater impact and an enduring legacy for the Niger Delta and Nigeria.”
