Eyewitnesses reported that Khadija accused Fadila of stealing the money that was given to her during the Sallah celebrations.

In a fit of anger, the enraged mother reportedly picked up an object and began beating the girl, resulting to her death.

Some residents claimed that Khadija was known to frequently beat Fadila over minor issues, particularly in matters related to the street hawking which the deceased girl was engaged in.

Speaking to journalists, the deceased’s father, Malam Mustapha Musa, said he was at work when the incident occurred.

Mustapha explained that he only returned home to the devastating news of his daughter’s death and had since transported her body to their hometown in Kano State for burial.

Khadija admitted to beating Fadila, but insisted that she did not intend to kill her, attributing her actions to “severe stress” she was going through at the time.

Local vigilante members were the first to intervene in the matter before handing the case over to the police for further investigation.
