Mother Arrested For Torturing 7-year-Old Daughter With Hot Knife

Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested a 32-year-old mother, Mrs Ogechi Ofoma, for allegedly abusing her seven-year-old daughter, Oluebube Ofoma, in Obosi, Idemili North local government area.

The command said preliminary information revealed that the child was subjected to severe physical abuse, including injuries inflicted with a hot knife.

Its spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this to journalists in Awka, the state capital.

He said, “The Anambra Police Command strongly condemns the alleged brutal abuse of a seven-year-old girl, and reaffirms its resolve to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.”

Ikenga, who issued a press statement on the incident, said the command received a report on the evening of September 13, 2026, concerning alleged child abuse and severe bodily injuries involving a seven-year-old, Miss Oluebube Ofoma.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports Ikenga as saying that the prompt intervention of security personnel from the Ibollo community in Awada-Obosi, and concerned residents, led to the child’s rescue and the arrest of her mother, Mrs Ogechi Ofoma, 32.

Ikenga said the command had commenced collaboration with the state commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs Chinyere Onyekesi, to ensure that the victim receives urgent and appropriate medical care.

He said the command would also ensure that the victim gets protection and necessary welfare support.

The command commended the vigilance, courage and public-spirited intervention of the Ibollo community security personnel and residents whose swift action helped save the child from further harm.

It assured the public that the investigation would be thorough, professional and uncompromising.

“The welfare, safety and interests of the child remain paramount, and the command will continue to work with relevant agencies to protect vulnerable persons and ensure accountability in accordance with the law,” he said.
