The chairman of the Federal Capital Territory Football Association (FCT FA), Alhaji Adam Mouktar Mohammed, has praised the organisation and progress of the ongoing 2025 FCT FA League.
At the Area 3 Playing Ground in Abuja, where he attended one of the league matches on Wednesday, Mouktar expressed his satisfaction with the competitive nature and overall coordination of the league. He commended the participating teams for their discipline and dedication, describing the league as a significant step towards revitalising football in the FCT.
“We are impressed with the level of organisation and participation so far. The league has been highly competitive, indicating that we are on the right path,” Mouktar stated.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to nurturing grassroots talent, strengthening local clubs, and establishing a sustainable football ecosystem that provides opportunities for young players to develop and thrive.
“Football is a powerful tool for youth engagement, unity, and economic empowerment. Here in the FCT, we are determined to harness these potentials by investing in grassroots football, enhancing the quality of our local competitions, and supporting our clubs and academies,” he added.
Mouktar appealed to stakeholders, including the private sector, to continue supporting the FCT FA’s vision of transforming Abuja into a model for football development in Nigeria.
The league, which commenced on Monday, features 18 teams from across the FCT, all competing for top honours at the conclusion of the season.
In related news, Mouktar, who holds the traditional title of Abegyi Bwaya of Bwari, was among the distinguished individuals honoured by the Nigeria National League (NNL) for their contributions to the growth and development of football in the country.
The respected philanthropist and sports administrator received recognition on Wednesday alongside Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF); former NFF Secretary-General Fani Amun; and other notable figures who have significantly advanced the NNL and grassroots football.
The honour, presented during the April and May editions of the NNL Awards in Abuja, acknowledged Mouktar’s unwavering support for the league and his impactful efforts in promoting football development within the FCT and beyond.
The NNL Awards aim to celebrate outstanding achievements by players, coaches, teams, and stakeholders, while also encouraging excellence, fostering grassroots development, and strengthening collaboration within the football ecosystem.
Alhaji Mouktar’s recognition highlights the transformative leadership he has brought to the FCT FA and his ongoing commitment to utilising sports as a tool for youth empowerment and societal growth.
While presenting the medal, NNL Chief Operating Officer Emmanuel Attah commended Mouktar for his consistent support, noting that his contributions have significantly enhanced the progress and visibility of the league.
