Real Madrid coach José Mourinho has ruled out the possibility of signing Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal despite praising the youngster’s quality.
Mourinho described Yamal as “a very good player” but insisted that he had no intention of pursuing a move for the Barcelona star.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Portuguese coach said on Thursday: “I won’t sign him. We already have the best players.”
Yamal has emerged as one of the most exciting young talents in world football, earning widespread recognition for his performances and technical ability despite his age.
Mourinho’s comments underline his confidence in the quality of his current Real Madrid squad, suggesting that he does not see the need to strengthen his attack with the Barcelona winger.
The Madrid coach also spoke about the club’s signing of Yan Diomande, revealing that although he did not specifically request the young winger, he wanted the player at the club.
“No, I did not ask, but I wanted him. He’s a great player who can play on both sides,” Mourinho said.
Mourinho’s remarks highlight his appreciation of Diomande’s versatility, with the youngster capable of operating on either flank and providing additional options in attack.
Real Madrid will begin their league campaign away to Espanyol on Saturday, August 22, at the RCDE Stadium.
