Nigerian singer and songwriter, Olawale Olofooro, popularly known as Brymo, has called on veteran musicians to step away from the forefront of the music industry to allow younger talents to thrive.
Speaking in a recent interview with TVC, the Ara singer accused his colleagues, Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy, of dominating the industry and maintaining a monopoly on relevance through the popular “Big 3″ narrative. According to Brymo, the younger generation artistes, such as Rema, should currently be leading mainstream pop music conversations.
The singer criticised older musicians for trying to stay on top indefinitely, saying listeners are ready for fresh sounds.
“We need to stop talking about how the new artists don’t have lyrical substance and focus on how some artists want to lock down the industry for themselves with the ‘Big 3’ narrative and continue reigning forever. They should shift aside. Right now, Rema should be the biggest pop star in the country without any doubt.”
