Abia Grassroots Movement (AGM) has flagged off its 10th Annual Subsidised Fertiliser Distribution to farmers across the 17 local government areas of the state.
At the event at Izybest Plaza, Umuikaa Junction, the founder of the movement, Chief Israel Amanze, told LEADERSHIP that the gesture was intended to support the beneficiaries.
The former programme manager of the State Agriculture Development Project further said it would go a long way toward boosting food production and security and would have an impact on the state’s economy.
Amanze, who is the secretary of the Secretaries’ Association of Nigeria, harped on the need for farmers to use unadulterated fertiliser and to seek expert advice to maximise their output.
According to the chairman of the Board of Trustees of the movement, agriculture has the potential not only to provide food for the people but also to create various job opportunities if properly harnessed.
While thanking the federal and state governments for their numerous laudable agricultural policies and programmes, Amanze urged the youths to take advantage of these programmes for a brighter future.
The founder explained that the movement is not a political organisation, but an open platform for farmers to share ideas and improve themselves.
‎In their separate remarks, some of the beneficiaries, Mr Okechukwu Ihediwa, Mr Christian Amamba, and Mrs Rose Ubani, expressed gratitude to the movement, describing Amanze as a pillar of agricultural support.
‎The event featured lectures on rice and moringa production by the state chairman of the Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria and the state chapter chairman and South East leader of Moringa Farmers, Mrs Uzoma Ochiulor.
