Director, MTN Foundation and former education director in Nigeria, Dennis Okoro, has launched his first book titled “Education in Nigeria; Perspectives for a changing world” in Lagos.
The book is an analysis of the current education system in Nigeria and highlights the grey areas in the country’s education system. It includes constructive criticisms, comments, suggestions and data to help make Nigeria more poised to transform its current education system, at the same time accommodate a very complex and uncertain future.
Okoro said he got inspired to write the book while having a conversation with an expatriate.
“I was at the Argungu fishing festival some years back and while having a conversation with an expatriate he encouraged me to document my experiences and ideas on the Nigerian educational system. Lucky for me, the Covid lockdown provided the perfect opportunity for me to put my thoughts together and write the book” he said.
Also at the event, the chairman of MTN Foundation, Prince Julius Adelusi-Adeluyi (OFR) encouraged everyone present, to read the book, as it is not a regular book.
“I thank you Dennis for finally making this book available and I believe that all those who are fortunate to have it will learn from it. The Book is not an ordinary book, but an eye-witness book. It contains perspectives from different eyewitnesses, and I believe everyone should get the book to enrich and improve themselves with the information on education” he said.
Also present at the launch were Dr. Ernest Ndukwe, Chairman MTN Nigeria, Justice Rose Ukeje, first female Chief Judge of the High Court of Nigeria, former students, colleagues, family and friends of Mr Dennis Okoro.
