MTN Foundation via its Scholarship Programme with the Musical Society of Nigeria has been empowering musically-inclined youths since 2006.

The foundation witnessed the graduation of its recent set of musical scholars at MUSON Lagos.

All 29 graduands, received top-tier classical music education, vocal and/or instrument mastery, alongside other certifications in their years-long study at school; and took to the stage to showcase their skills.

Standout performances at the graduation ceremony, include musician and bassist, Lala Adebayo Gabriel, and Singer, Maria Goretti Nnaji.

Lala, who joined the programme with two grade 5 certificates is leaving the school with ten professional certificates. He is a proficient double, and electric bass player, and deft in music production, mixing, and mastering, as well as choir directing and film sound engineering.

Speaking at the event, executive director, MTN Foundation, Odunayo Sanya,  noted that while Nigeria’s inflationary economy is enough to discontinue such programmes, its continuation shows the telecoms dedication towards youth development in Nigeria.

Tasking the graduates to be agents of change in their society, he said, “Even if you don’t pay it forward in MUSON, continue to pay it forward, remembering that some people took a chance on you, and that’s why you are here today.”

The MTN Foundation and MUSON scholarship programme is dedicated to expanding its reach to talented underprivileged Nigerian youths in order to help them accomplish their dreams.
