The Organisation of Tadhamunul Muslimeen (OTM) has welcomed the rescue of 44 abducted pupils, teachers and school officials in Oyo State, describing the development as a major relief for affected families and communities.
In a statement issued yesterday by its national secretary, Alhaji Jamiu Aleem, the organisation expressed gratitude to God comended the federal and Oyo State governments for their roles in securing the release of the victims.
The rescued victims were abducted during coordinated attacks on Community High School, Ahoro-Esinle; Yawota Baptist Nursery and Primary School; and L.A. Primary School in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.
The incident, which involved students and key school officials, including a principal and vice principal, triggered widespread concern among parents, residents and education stakeholders.
The victims were eventually freed on 10 July 2026, bringing an end to days of anxiety and uncertainty for their families and the wider Oyo community.
OTM praised the efforts of security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, Department of State Services (DSS), National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), as well as local vigilantes, Amotekun operatives and community leaders who contributed to the rescue operation.
The organisation also commiserated with the families of victims and security personnel who lost their lives during the operation.
While celebrating the safe return of the abductees, OTM urged authorities to strengthen measures aimed at protecting schools across the country.
It called for improved security infrastructure, enhanced intelligence gathering and the implementation of sustainable strategies to prevent future attacks on educational institutions.
The group further appealed for comprehensive medical attention, trauma counselling and psychosocial support for the rescued pupils, teachers and officials to aid their recovery and reintegration into society.
OTM also urged citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities, stressing that community involvement remains critical in the fight against insecurity.
The organisation reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives, promoting Education, and fostering peaceful coexistence, while praying for lasting security across Oyo State and Nigeria.
