The President of Nigeria Coalition of Pastors for Good Leaders (NCPGL ), Apostle Babatunde Oguntimehin, has appealed to Christian Association of Nigeria(CAN) to stop addressing them as faceless pastors.
Recalled that Jannamike CAN spokesperson said “The message is very simple and clear. We still stand on our earlier stance of ‘No to the same-faith ticket.’ As far as we are concerned, they are a faceless group. We can’t really be seen joining issues with them. They are free to do what they want to do.”
However, reacting in an interview with selected journalists in Abuja on Monday, Apostle Oguntumehin said we are not against CAN and they should stop calling us faceless pastors because we are on the ground and we are ready to contribute our own quota to national development.
“We are not faceless pastors and I urge us to be careful in our choice of words as men and women of God.
“As stated in the Bible: it’s not what goes into us that defiles us, but what comes out of us.
I can’t say anything bad or wrong against CAN because they are our fathers and cover as christians in Nigeria.
“We are making an appeal to the Special Assistants to the CAN president not to be using such words against men of God.
“We believe that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is the only person that can win the forthcoming 2023 election from the southern part of Nigeria amongst the aspirants and am using this medium to appeal to CAN not to call us faceless pastors but men of God and Christians like them and we have the right to come out and decide who to support.
“We have our right to participate and choose who to vote and we should not be condemned by our actions in choosing the candidate of our choice by the CAN President”, he said.
Continuing, he said we are not to drag anything with the Christian Association of Nigerian (CAN), our own is to support Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the presidential candidate of All progressive congress (APC) to gather votes for him in the forth coming 2023 elections.
Oguntimehin said we held town hall meetings in Abuja with about 630 pastors in attendance and those pastors are heads of churches and some are general overseers that are having about 5 or 10 churches under them.
“In my church personally, I have about 750 members, while some of the pastors that attended the town hall engagement and meeting have 1,000, while others have 2,000 or even more and some with fewer members because we are dealing with grass root pastors that are having direct connection with their followers that can talk to them in terms of a candidate to vote.
“We can vote Bola Ahmed Tinubu through our churches with the numbers of pastors we are having across the country not Abuja alone and that’s the reason we are planning for Abuja summit where we would bring in all the states executive and we are expecting like 3,000 pastors in attendance and we may inform CAN about the next summit by God’s grace”.
