Muslim Women To Hold Conference In Sokoto

Muslim Women under the aegis of Federation of Muslim Women’s Association of Nigeria, FOMWAN, have converged in Sokoto, for the 38th annual conference of the association holding from 23rd to 26th November 2023.

The wife of the president, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, is expected to be the special guest of honour at the occasion scheduled to commence on Friday in Sokoto.

The national amirah (president) of the association, Hajiya Rafiat Idowu Sanni, disclosed this yesterday during a press conference held at the secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Sokoto State.

Flanked by other executives including Professor Sadiya Umar Bello, Dr Sumayya Hamza, Hajiya Maimuna, Hajiya Muslimat, Hajiya Sami Raliat, Hajiya Zarah Maishsanu among others, the Amirah disclosed that Professor Ishaq Olanrewaju Oloyede, would present the keynote address in addition to discussions by scholars.

“We are optimistic that the conference will generate positive results that will shape the country in the best form of higher pedestal of morality with the calibre of persons to drive the presentations.

“As an organisation that has a great passion for children, the association would also look into the state of the nation as regards the lifestyle of the Nigerian children and the youths,“ she stressed.

The association was founded on five thematic areas in October 1985 to serve as mouthpieces on matters that have to do with women and children, health, humanitarian services, community development, youth and women empowerment.

Hajiya Rafiat Sanni further said, „FOMWAN have chapters across the country with competent and committed executives at National, State, Zonal and LG levels home and abroad with a BOT Chaired by former Lagos state deputy governor, Alhaja Lateefah Modupeola Okunnu.

“We have six functional hospitals across the country, and our orphanages in all the zones of Nigeria take care of motherless babies, orphans and other vulnerable children.“

 The association commended the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, for providing scholarship for the girl child to read medicine and acknowledged the efforts of the Sokoto State governor Ahmed Aliyu in assisting the association in organising the conference.
