The Eid-el- Fitr festival marking the end of the month – long Ramadan fast by the Muslims across the World was on Sunday marked in Ilorin and every other part of Kwara State in a peaceful atmosphere.
LEADERSHIP reports that various security agencies, including the police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) deployed their personnel to man security and ensure orderliness across the state.
In Ilorin, the state capital, the security personnel mounted watertight security in and around the Eid praying ground and other parts of the metropolis to ensure security of lives of worshippers and other members of the society.
The FRSC’s personnel also did a yeoman’s job in controlling the traffic and ensuring smooth passage of both the people and vehicles at the praying ground and its environs.
Few days before the festival, the NSCDC had deployed 2, 800 personnel to man security during the celebration of Eid- el- Fitr.
Similarly, the FRSC had deployed 650 officers and marshals, 350 special marshals and 120 first responders to ensure effective traffic control during the festivities.
The Corps equally deployed 16 patrol vehicles, seven power bikes, four ambulances, four private tow trucks and a 70 – tonne tow-truck to monitor all roads during the celebrations.
The two – rakah Eid- el- Fitr prayer was led by the chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Soliu.
The Emir of Ilorin, Alh Ibrahim Sulu- Gambari and a powerful delegation of the state government led by the majority leader of the State House of Assembly, Hon. AbdulKadir Magaji were at the Eid praying ground.
Magaji on behalf of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq who was in Saudi Arabia for the lesser Hajj urged all Kwarans and Nigerians to imbibe the lessons of Ramadan and continue with the righteous deeds after the holy month.
He enjoined the people to be their brothers’ keepers, be peaceful in their conduct, and pray for peace and stability of Kwara State and Nigeria at large.
For his part, the Emir of Ilorin, Alh Ibrahim Sulu- Gambari congratulated all sons and daughters of the Emirate and the people of the state for the successful completion of fasting and a peaceful Eid-el- Fitr.
He prayed for the safe return of Governor AbdulRazaq from the holy land, and commended the administration’s giant strides and the commitment to peace.
