Mutfwang Wins Plateau APC Guber Primary

Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has emerged winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election in the state, securing the party’s ticket ahead of the forthcoming general election.

He defeated his closest rival, retired Navy Commander Yilchini Jan Bida, after polling 233,335 votes against 3,070 votes recorded by his opponent.

Chairman of the APC governorship and House of Assembly primary committee election  in Plateau State, Fedelis Mnyim, said a total of 236,405 votes were recorded across the various local government areas during the exercise.

He commended party members for their orderly conduct, noting that the process adhered strictly to the party’s guidelines.

“I, as the Chairman of the Governorship Primary Election Committee and Returning Officer, hereby certify that the Plateau State governorship primary election held on May 21, 2026, was duly conducted.

“The aspirants received the following votes: Commander Yilchini Jan Bida (Rtd.) scored 3,070 votes, while Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang scored 233,335 votes.

“Therefore, Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, having satisfied the requirements of the APC Constitution and guidelines, and having scored the highest number of valid votes cast, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected as the APC governorship candidate for Plateau State,” he stated.

LEADERSHIP-Weekend  reports  that the primary election, which was conducted across the state, was monitored by party officials and security agencies, with reports indicating that the exercise was largely peaceful and orderly.
