Justine Madugu, head coach of the Super Falcons, has reacted to his nomination for the 2025 Ballon d’Or Award. Madugu is one of five coaches nominated for Women’s Team Coach of the Year by the organisers, joining Sarina Wiegman, Emma Hayes, Bev Priestman, and Sonia Bompastor in contention for the prestigious accolade.
At 61, Madugu is the first African to receive such a nomination. He led the Super Falcons to a historic 10th title at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco last month.
“It’s a great honour not only for me personally but for our dear country, as I am not sure if any other African coach has ever been nominated at this level in this category,” he told Flashscore.
