A two-day summit on renewable energy organised by the House of National Assembly begins today (Monday.
The event tagged “First National Assembly Legislative Conference and Expo on Renewable Energy” is being organised by the House of Representatives Committee on Renewable Energy in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) under the Parliamentary Development Programme.
According to the chairman of the House Committee on Renewable Energy and member representing Ogbaru federal constituency of Anambra state, Hon Afam Ogene the conference “aims at bringing together key stakeholders and industry players to discuss renewable energy legislations, energy transition, renewable energy financing, investment opportunities and related matters towards developing a national legislation framework on renewable energy.
Hon. Ogene stated that some state governors and ministers of power, environment, and finance had already been contacted to participate in the Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos conference.
Others were heads of relevant government agencies, heads of diplomatic missions, commissioners of power and energy, representatives of civil society groups, speakers of state Houses of Assembly, development partners and other relevant technocrats.
Hon Ogene stated that the Speaker of the House of Representatives, RT. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas prioritised issues concerning renewable energy, so he is committed to ensuring that the conference produces the desired result.
