The people of Shonga in Edu local government area of Kwara State have applauded the siting of a N242 million Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) project in their area by the state government.
The government yesterday officially handed over the ultra- modern ICT project to a firm of contractors – Skylat-One Nigeria Ltd.
The people of the Kwara North community who spoke through the Emir of Shonga, Dr Haliru Yahaya, expressed optimism that the ICT project would further enhance educational development in the area.
The emir, on behalf of his people, thanked the state governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for meeting their yearnings through the siting of the ICT project in the community.
Yahaya noted that the project would support the educational system, enhance economic growth and social development of Shonga community and its environs.
He added that Shonga community had been advocating for quality skills that match the economic reality among which are computer literacy and digital economy for socio-economic development of the community.
The monarch praised the state government for handing over the project to the contractor, adding that,” people will ever remain grateful to the state government for providing this intervention in their area.”
The commissioner for Business, Innovation and Technology, Hon. Damilola Yusuf – Adelodun, who handed over the project to the contractor, restated the state government’s commitment to providing infrastructure needed for the technological advancement the state.
She described the project as a testament to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq administration’s determination to drive economic growth and development in the state.
She added that the ultra-modern ICT project will have a significant impact on the local economy as well as create job opportunities for the people of Shonga and the adjourning communities.
The commissioner charged the contractor to deliver on schedule and executive the project according to specification.
