The air component of Operation Hadin Kai has destroyed five gun trucks belonging to terrorists at two different locations in the Tumbuns on the fringes of Lake Tchad in Borno State and neutralised several fighters.
The Director of Public Relations and Information (DOPRI), Air Cdre Edward Gabkwet, said the Nigeria Air Force (NAF) struck terrorist hideouts at Tumbun Fulani and Tumbun Shitu between September 27 and 30, 2023, when activities of terrorists in the locations were confirmed to have constituted a threat to military formations and law-abiding Nigerians residing within the locations.
At Tumbun Fulani, he said the terrorists were observed loading jerricans in two gun trucks concealed under shrubs.
Subsequently, NAF aircraft were scrambled to interdict the location, believed to be a major logistics base for the terrorists.
He said a Battle Damage Assessment after the strike revealed that several terrorists were neutralised and the gun trucks were destroyed.
The NAF spokesman revealed that similar strikes were also undertaken at Tumbun Shitu after structures believed to be terrorists’ hideouts were observed tucked under thick foliage.
He added that three gun trucks with terrorists were sighted moving into the location. Hence, the order to strike the location, adding that aftermath of the air strikes revealed several terrorists were neutralised and the trucks destroyed.
He restated the determination of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) to significantly limit the activities of terrorists in the North-East and other parts of Nigeria.
He noted that the current operational gains by the AFN were indicative of improved synergy and cooperation by all security agencies as well as the unwavering support of all Nigerians.
