The director general, National Agency For Food, Drug Administration and Control, Mojisola Adeyeye has called for establishment of coordinated wholesale centres for drugs and related products in Aba.

Adeyeye, who is on official duty in Aba, made the call when she led other senior staff of the agency on a courtesy visit to Abia State governor, Alex Otti at Government House, Umuahia, the state capital.

She argued that operations of such centres will enhance monitoring, reduction of production, and circulation of unwholesome medicines, consumables, and fake drugs in society.

“So that we can ease the pain of our people and prevent the death of so many that take falsified, substandard medicines, and unwholesome food in the country,” she maintained.

The director general noted that the agency was praying and hoping that during the governor’s administration, the agency will witness the establishment of the centres.

Responding, Otti assured the director general that his administration was committed to partnering the agency and other security agencies in the fight against fake items, crime and criminality in the state.

“This informed our decision to set up a harmonised task force to fight negative tendencies. We’re poised to maximise the positive energy of our youths and channel them to positive ventures,” he said.

Otti, who lamented the effects of fake drugs and substandard products on people, including death, vowed that the administration will stop at nothing in its fight to eradicate them in the state.

He commended the director general for her commitment to her job even in the face of the challenges, adding that the administration will support and make her mission in the state successful.
