The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has un-covered expired and toxic chemicals worth over N1 bil-lion in Lagos.
The agency uncovered this during a sting operation at Fo-larin Olawale Cole Close, Ala-pere-Ketu area of Lagos, de-scribing the seizure as one of the largest and most danger-ous in recent years, with se-rious implications for public health and national security.
Speaking after the raid, NAFDAC’s director of In-vestigation and Enforcement and chairman, Federal Task Force on Fake and Substand-ard Products, Dr. Martins Il-uyomade, declared the raid a massive and unprecedented discovery.
According to him, the three warehouses raided were stocked with prohibit-ed, expired, and highly toxic chemicals, many of which are meant for food and pharma-ceutical use.
“What we saw here is shocking. All expired. Some marked ‘Not for Sale.’ These are chemicals that should only be in government custody, not in the hands of private individ-uals,” he stated.
