The National Forum of Political Advisers (NAFOPA) has congratulated Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Bassey Eno on his decision to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
The forum lauded Governor Eno’s move as a strategic step toward fostering unity and collaboration for the development of Akwa Ibom and the South-South zone.
In a statement signed by the president of NAFOPA, Chief Perry Opara, the forum emphasised the importance of Governor Eno working closely with Senate President Godswill Akpabio to attract federal presence and drive sustainable growth in the State.
Chief Opara, who also serves as Special Adviser (Political) and Head of the Political Bureau to Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, described Governor Eno’s defection as a bold and visionary.
“Governor Umo Eno’s decision to join the APC demonstrates his commitment to placing the interests of Akwa Ibom State above partisan politics. His collaboration with Senator Akpabio will undoubtedly yield dividends for the state’s people,” Opara said.
NAFOPA, an association of political advisers to state governors across Nigeria, highlighted the critical role Governor Eno and Senator Akpabio could play in ensuring Akwa Ibom benefits from key federal projects and initiatives. He urged both leaders to leverage their positions to attract investments and enhance infrastructure development in the state.
Chief Opara also called on other political stakeholders in Akwa Ibom to support Governor Eno’s and Senator Akpabio’s alliance.
“This is a moment for all political actors in Akwa Ibom to close ranks and work in harmony for the betterment of the state. Divisions and discord will only hinder progress,” he added.
“Our association stands firmly behind Governor Eno and Senator Akpabio in their quest to transform Akwa Ibom into a model of development and good governance,” Opara remarked.
“By aligning with the APC, Governor Eno has positioned the state to tap into broader national resources and opportunities. This partnership must be harnessed to address the pressing needs of the people,” Chief Opara stated.
