The newly appointed council chairman of the National Agency for the Great Green Wall (NAGGW), Magnus Abbe, has promisd to provide all necessary support and assistance to enhance the agency’s efficiency in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Senator Abbe made this known during a familiarisation visit to the agency’s headquarters in Abuja, according to a statement that was issued by the agency.
In his remarks, he emphasised the agency’s critical role in environmental sustainability and land restoration, stating that NAGGW was established by an Act of Parliament with a clear mandate to restore degraded lands and combat desertification.
He commended those who conceived the Great Green Wall initiative as a strategic effort to secure the country’s future for generations to come.
The chairman urged the management team to adopt a fresh perspective on the agency’s mission, encouraging them to think differently and perceive the agency’s role in a broader and more impactful way.
He assured the staff of his commitment to contribute through advice, support and recommendations aimed at increasing the agency’s visibility and effectiveness.
He further emphasised that his presence in the agency as council chairman would serve to support the director general, improve staff working conditions and add value not only to the agency but also to the country and the regions where it operates.
In his welcome address, the director general/CEO, Saleh Abubakar, assured him of the agency’s full commitment to realise its mandate of combating desertification and restoring Nigeria’s drylands.
