The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) on Monday said it had successfully contained an attempt by unnamed individuals to destabilise its current leadership, describing the effort as a failure after staff declined to lend it credibility.
The commission disclosed the development in a statement issued on Monday, noting that the situation had since been resolved and normal operations restored. It did not identify the individuals involved or describe the precise nature of the attempt.
“Earlier today, there was an attempt by certain individuals to undermine the credibility of the current leadership through external actors,” the Commission said. “We are pleased to state that this effort was unsuccessful, as it was firmly rejected by disciplined and committed members of staff who declined to be associated with unfounded claims.”
NAICOM used the statement to reiterate what it described as a sustained record of improving staff welfare under its current management, citing progress in training, career development, and workplace conditions since the present leadership assumed office.
The Commission said its human resource system operates on merit, in strict compliance with public service rules and applicable regulatory frameworks, with promotion exercises conducted on the basis of “clear, objective, and verifiable criteria.” It added that all staff are treated equally, with no room for favouritism or bias.
Signalling awareness of underlying grievances, management said it remained open to constructive dialogue and urged staff to utilise established internal mechanisms for communication and dispute resolution, rather than “actions that may disrupt operations or affect public confidence in the Commission.”
NAICOM is the statutory regulator and supervisor of Nigeria’s insurance industry. It did not indicate whether disciplinary proceedings had been initiated against those allegedly involved in Monday’s incident, nor did it provide further detail on how the situation was resolved.
