The trial of celebrity bartender, Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, continued as a Federal High Court in Lagos, on Wednesday, adjourned the case until June 25.

Cubana Chief Priest faces allegations of abusing the Naira notes during a social event at the Eko Hotel in Lagos.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned Okechukwu on April 17 on a three-count charge, accusing him of spraying and tampering with Naira notes. Despite pleading not guilty, he was granted bail in the sum of N10 million.

LEADERSHIP recalls that at a recent court session on May 2, Okechukwu’s defence counsel, Mr. Chikaosolu Ojukwu (SAN), informed the court of ongoing out-of-court settlement discussions between the parties, pursuant to Section 14(2) of the EFCC Act. Following the revelation, the defence team sought to withdraw their preliminary objection, which was granted by the court.

However, despite the expectation of a report on settlement progress during the latest court session on June 5, it was revealed that the defence team had requested an adjournment. Consequently, the case has been rescheduled for June 25.
