NANS, NYSC To Advance Graduate Entrepreneurship

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) have strengthened their institutional partnership aimed at promoting graduate entrepreneurship, skills development and youth empowerment across Nigeria.

The students’ body concluded a high-level strategic engagement with the Director-General of the NYSC at the Scheme’s National Directorate Headquarters in Abuja.

This was contained in a press statement yesterday, signed by Comr. Sadiq SK Zango, National Vice President (External Affairs), NANS, on behalf of the National Executive Council of the association.

The meeting formed part of NANS’ ongoing institutional engagement initiative aimed at strengthening collaboration with key public institutions responsible for youth development, graduate transition, national integration, and human capital advancement.

NANS delegation, led by the National Vice President (External Affairs), Comr Sadiq Zango, appreciated the leadership of the NYSC for granting the audience and reaffirmed the association’s commitment to constructive engagement that advances the interests of Nigerian students and graduates.

During the engagement, both institutions held extensive discussions on issues affecting prospective and serving Corps Members, including graduate transition, pre-mobilisation preparedness, institutional communication, entrepreneurship development, digital transformation, graduate employability, and opportunities for deeper collaboration between the NYSC and the Nigerian student community.

Speaking during the meeting, Comr Zango emphasised that the National Secretariat of NANS receives recurring inquiries from students across the country on mobilisation procedures, documentation requirements, Corps Members’ welfare, entrepreneurship opportunities, post-service career development, and other issues relating to the National Youth Service Scheme.

He noted that these realities underscore the importance of structured collaboration between NANS and the NYSC to improve information dissemination, strengthen stakeholder engagement, and better prepare graduates for national service and life beyond graduation.

As part of its presentation, NANS proposed a number of practical initiatives designed to strengthen engagement between both institutions, including a structured institutional partnership framework and nationwide pre-mobilisation awareness programmes for final-year students.

Others are campus-based information campaigns, enhanced entrepreneurship sensitisation, graduate employability initiatives, and sustained dialogue on matters relating to Corps Members’ welfare.

The association reaffirmed its readiness to leverage its nationwide network of Students’ Union Governments and campus leadership structures to support verified information dissemination, youth mobilisation, public enlightenment, and constructive stakeholder feedback in support of the objectives of the National Youth Service Corps.

NANS commended the Director-General and the management of the scheme for their openness, professionalism, and commitment to engaging stakeholders on issues of national importance.

The association expressed confidence that sustained dialogue between both institutions would contribute to better-informed graduates, stronger institutional trust, improved access to opportunities for young Nigerians, and continued advancement of the NYSC’s mandate of fostering national unity, leadership development, and nation-building.
