The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has restated its commitment to strengthening institutional partnerships, expanding strategic local and international engagements and enhancing advocacy platforms.

NANS’ newly elected vice president (External Affairs Directorate), Comrade Sadiq Zango, in his acceptance speech at the just-concluded National Convention, said NANS would remain impactful, responsive, and globally relevant in advancing the interests of Nigerian students.

Zango expressed profound gratitude to almighty Allah, delegates, stakeholders, mentors, comrades, supporters, and well-wishers across the country whose trust, sacrifices, and contributions culminated in the success of the mandate.

He described the outcome as a collective victory for unity, progressive leadership, and the continued advancement of the Nigerian student movement.

He acknowledged the critical role of stakeholders, allies, and supporters who demonstrated unwavering solidarity throughout the convention process, describing their support as a testament to collective belief in visionary leadership and institutional transformation within NANS.

Comrade Olatunji Emmanuel, ASG/Chief Accreditation Officer, NANS National Convention, in a statement on Monday, said the Convention brought together accredited delegates, student leaders, stakeholders, and observers from across the federation in a highly participatory democratic process that reaffirmed the evolving strength and unity of the Nigerian student movement.

According to him, following extensive consultations, deliberations by the Congress, and electoral procedures, Zango was overwhelmingly entrusted with the mandate to serve as Vice President (External Affairs) of the Association.

“As the new leadership prepares to assume office, stakeholders within the education, youth development, and civic engagement sectors have expressed optimism that his tenure would further strengthen NANS’ external relations framework, deepen institutional collaborations, and expand opportunities for Nigerian students at national and international levels.

“His emergence reflects broad-based confidence in his leadership profile, strategic engagement capacity, advocacy-driven orientation, and sustained contributions to students’ unionism, youth development, institutional representation, and stakeholder diplomacy within the Nigerian educational ecosystem”, Olatunji said.
