NAOWA Presents Palliatives To Widows Of Fallen Heroes, Wounded Soldiers

The Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA) 7 division branch, has commemorated the 2024 International Women’s Day Celebration with the donation of palliatives to the wives of soldiers who died in the fight against Boko Haram insurgency, as well as wounded soldiers recuperating at the 7 division hospital Maimalari Cantonment, in Maiduguri.

Speaking at a ceremony held with a lecture on Friday, the Chairperson of NAOWA 7 division branch, Mrs Aishat Haruna, said the donation of the palliatives comprising 25kg rice , carton of spaghetti and groundnut oil to the widows, as well as the financial donations made to the recuperating soldiers at the military hospital , is part of the activities marking the International Women’s Day.
She said NAOWA is celebrating the IWD with more emphasis on the importance of empowering women through initiatives that promote their rights, provide parallel opportunities where women can thrive individually and professionally.

She said the theme for this year’s IWD global celebration tagged “ Inspire Inclusion “ , is a call to action which necessitated the need to bridge the glaring gaps by creating more prospects and enabling ground for women.

“As part of activities lined up by this amiable chapter to celebrate the IWD , we paid courtesy visit to the sick and wounded troops at the 7 division medical services and hospital, and to commiserate with those that have paid the supreme sacrifices , by reaching out to their widows in Maimalari Cantonment and those under 7 division,” Mrs Haruna said.

In her presentation, one of the resource persons at the lecture, Mrs Mariam Akor , said the IWD is a once – a – year chance to remind governments, businesses and everyone else watching, that women are prepared and determined to take action to achieve their equality and human rights.
