Serie A champions, Napoli have announced the release of Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Osimhen is expected to be named in Nigeria’s final squad for the competition slated for Cote d’Ivoire next January.
Napoli wrote “At the end Thursday’s training, Osimhen obtained a day’s leave so he could join his family before leaving for the national team’s training camp.

“We remind you that the former Lille player is disqualified in the championship and would missed the match against Monza.”
The striker, who celebrated his 25th birthday on Friday will be making his second AFCON appearance in Cote d’Ivoire.

The former Wolfsburg player was part of Super Eagles’ squad to the 2019 AFCON finals hosted by Egypt.He missed out on a place in Nigeria’s squad to the last AFCON in Cameroon due to injury.
The Super Eagles are in Group A with Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea-Bissau and Equatorial Guinea.
Jose Peseiro’s side will take on Equatorial Guinea in their first game at the Alssanne Quattara Stadium, Ebimpe, Abidjan on Sunday, January 14.
