Director General of National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Binta Bello has charged parents and youths to resist activities of promoters of human trafficking and organ harvesting.
Bello gave the charge in Abuja during the presentation of over 70 Football Jersey to F.C Wuzgak, Masaka area of Nasarawa State, in commemoration of the 2025 Children’s Day organised by the Blue North Initiative (BNI).
NAPTIP’s Director General who was represented by Deputy Director, Counseling and Rehabilitation Department, Ogo Adinde, warned the youths against hiding any issue with third party or strangers, urging them to confide with their teachers, parents and counselors.
She said, “I want to tell you one thing, that this human trafficking you are hearing, it looks very simple, it is a whole lot of problem. It’s one crime that takes the dignity of man away. Human trafficking is not just about trafficking children to abroad.
“We have what we call internal trafficking. A lot of men and women in Nigeria here are practicing internal trafficking where they bring children from states, local communities to urban places.
“For example, they bring children from maybe Enugu or Kano or Nasarawa to Abuja and deceive them that they’re going to go to school or they are going to work. They will put them in different hotels, and these young children will be there doing prostitution.
“They will carry you and deceive you. There are so many places that they are using to do human trafficking,” he said.
In her remarks, Country Director of Blue North Initiative, Boma West who urged Nigerian children to shun all forms of social vices, highlighted the consequences of human trafficking.
She said, “We are doing our best by going to schools to ensure that no child is trafficked again. That is our own way of stopping human trafficking.”
West who expressed grief over the plights of thousands of Nigerians who have fallen victims of human trafficking, called for deliberate actions toward ending the menace.
While reiterating the initiative’s resolve towards partnering with NAPTIP and other stakeholders, she disclosed that no stone will be left unturned in the organisation’s quest to sustain ongoing public awareness and support for victims of human trafficking in Nigeria, Canada and other countries.
She added that beyond human trafficking, the initiative was also creating awareness on human trafficking and also giving helping hands to survivors.
