The National Association of Seadogs (Pyrates Confraternity), Sahara Deck, (Abuja City Centre) have embarked on numerous projects aimed at promoting the ability to read and write in commemoration of the 2023 International Literacy Day, themed, “Empowering Communities Through Literacy”.

“Within the Abuja City Center, where we operate, we have noted that attaining literacy especially among the young people is still a long way off the mark. With the proliferation of IDP camps, street hawking and rising cases of out of school children, we need to work extra hard to attain a respectable level of literacy in the country and the FCT in particular.”
We call on the Minister of FCT to take Education as a priority area in his administration. It is our belief that with deliberate efforts geared at addressing issues around the identified areas, we will set in motion a chain of events that will guarantee that the literacy level of the citizens in the FCT improves significantly,” he stated.
Oni lamented the poor state of public schools at the primary and secondary levels, and added that most of them are poorly staffed and lack the needed infrastructure.
