Nasarawa State Government has approved the recruitment of 500 civil servants across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) with priority to be given to long-serving casual workers.
The state’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Isaac Danladi, disclosed this after the State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Abdullahi Sule.
He said the approval followed a manpower needs assessment conducted across MDAs, adding that the recruitment will be carried out subject to due process, with existing casual workers who have served for several years considered first.
The council also approved three major investment decisions aimed at boosting the state’s revenue base and infrastructure.
Commissioner for Finance, Hajiya Munirat Abdullahi, said the first is the acquisition of one million ordinary shares in the recently concluded Dangote Group Initial Public Offer (IPO). The purchase will be funded from returns on investments held by the Nasarawa State Investment and Development Agency (NASIDA).
The second is the entry into a Rehabilitation, Operation and Transfer (ROT), arrangement for the Sani Abacha Bus Terminal in Karu. According to her, the terminal, when rehabilitated, is expected to generate about N300 million annually for the state.
The third is a proposed land-for-infrastructure arrangement in Lafia. Under the deal, a private investor will provide roads, culverts and other critical infrastructure while the state retains 60 per cent of the estate development.
The government said the decisions are part of ongoing efforts to create jobs, expand the state’s investment portfolio, and accelerate infrastructure development.
