Nasarawa Bags W’Bank SFTAS Award

For implementing reforms that have impacted positively on fiscal transparency and accountability in public resource management, the Nasarawa state government has bagged the World Bank’s states’ fiscal transparency, accountability, and sustainability (SFTAS) award.

SFTAS is a programme that encourages and motivates Nigerian states towards improvement of their fiscal transparency systems, processes, and institutions aimed at strengthening fiscal transparency to help build trust in government, facilitate accountability in public resource management, and ensure sustainability in the participating states.

Nasarawa received the award of Domestic Revenue Mobilization , Improvement on Original Disbursement Linked Indicators (1-9) and Debt Sustainability.

The award was conferred on the state during the, federal government of Nigeria/World Bank SFTAS recognition dinner, organized to celebrate the achievements of SFTAS since inception, at the Transcorp, in Abuja,recently

Our correspondent reports that the award was due to the political will and determination of Governor Sule to reform and reposition the state’s public finance management structure in line with international best practices.

The governor provided support and freedom to the steering committee to implement policies and procedures that ensured the state met all requirements attached to the Disbursement Linked Indicators (DLI’s) under the SFTAS programme without interference, enthroning a durable system that instills probity, transparency, accountability, due process, and the rule of law in governance.

Nasarawa state ranked 15th out of 36 in the 2022 Transparency and Integrity Index released by the Centre for Fiscal Transparency and Integrity Watch (CeFTIW) and had an overall fiscal performance rank of 13th out of 36 in the 2022 State of the states released by BudgIt.
